Radicalizing Reformation – Provoked by the Bible and Today's Crises
Proposal for the second phase of the project (2015-2017)

The project starts from the assumption that the central biblical message is about God`s compassion and justice and, therefore, about liberation from oppression and injustice. Israel and, on that basis, the messianic communities of Jesus, the Messiah, have been called to be witnesses of this saving activity of God to all people through the spirit.

It is in this perspective that we have critically reviewed the Reformation and today's crises in our research, to be published early 2015 (together with 94 Theses as a kind of essence of our findings).

On this basis, from 2015 to 2017, we want to ask congregations, schools, seminaries and ecumenical groups in a decentralized way, to work with victims of modernity and the dominating political and economic system critically evaluating the role of Reformation and Reformation Churches in the perspective of turning around towards liberation. We think of working with Jews, Palestinians, Muslims, Anabaptists, poor and marginalized people. Also the gender issue could be thematized.

Two examples presented in Halle:

1.      Daniel Beros from ISEDET/Buenos Aires is in negotiations with the Lutheran Seminary in São Leopoldo/Brasil to have a common project around two burning issues in their country debt and soja monoculture.

2.      Craig Nessan wants to work with the students of his Theological School along these lines and come together with a group of them to the final conference in Wittenberg.

This would apply to all decentralized projects: their participants could join the final event,
from January 7 (noon) – 10 (noon), 2017, the 3rd International Conference in Wittenberg.

There will be no common program of this project over these two years, but only the lose coordination of the decentralized projects in order to be able to organize a meaningful program for the final event with them.

In order to get an overview, please, indicate your initial interest to organize or connect us with a contact person interested to organize a decentralized project of that kind.
